In my view this is a design fault.
You will have to undo the rubber boot around the filler neck but its pretty easy.

I found it easiest to remove the door by loosing the one 10 mm bolt securing the filler tube to the chassis and physically pushing the filler neck out of the way.
The hinge assembly is still there but the door flap which seems to just clip onto it has disappeared.
My first thought was that it d fallen off but that seems rather unlikely it only seems to be held on by a clip however the clip is still there.
