The repair is to remover the door lock and have a look to see if the plastic arm which is activated but the inside door handle is making contact properly with the small arm i found that there is a small spring which somehow had wound its way over this lever and used long nise pliers to wind the sping back to its correct location this has fixed the exact same problem you have.

Whenever i try to lock it either externally or internally the door locks continuously cycle closed open closed until i attempt to lock it half a dozen times to eventually stop the cycling and the car stays locked.
